WHAT ARE SMAs?
Most commonly known as NITINOL. SMA actuators are hair sized wires made of nickel-titanium which have the capability to replace a small motor or solenoid.

HOW DO SMAs WORK?
The SMA wire contracts a percentage of its length, like a muscle, when electrically actuated or heated. This linear motion can be converted into work which can be integrated in a vast number of applications such as; latches, pumps, medicine dispensers, valves, etc. Its uses are endless encompassing a wide range of industries.

ADVANTAGES
  • Cost effective: Pennies over dollars.
  • Reliable: Proven to actuate over 10 million cycles*. (*Longevity depends on wire diameter)
  • Low power consumption: As low as 45mA for 1 second actuation.
  • Small package size:  SMA wire actuators range from 0.001” up to 0.030” in diameter.
  • Light weight: SMA wire actuators are lighter than a strand of hair.
  • Quiet: SMA wires produce zero noise emissions.
